As more Americans wake up to realize the Republican Party has gone full-blown Nazi and fascist, MAGA Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) desperately tried to define both as left-wing, prompting a historian to call him out on social media.
Donald Trump and the GOP are literally employing Nazi tactics to seize absolute power. They are attacking civil and voting rights, oppressing women, recruiting and sending armed thugs to blue states, and even classifying liberals and others on the left as “terrorists.”
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as Trump ignores the courts, uses the DOJ and law enforcement to intimidate and persecute his political opponents, adopts Christian nationalism, and creates a nationwide concentration camp system. He’s even bringing back barbaric methods of execution, including gas chambers.
There is no doubt that Republicans are modern-day Nazis executing an agenda straight out of the Nazi playbook, which is why panicking Republicans such as Lee are trying to rewrite history by lying about where Nazism and fascism fall on the political spectrum.
“Fascism and Nazism aren’t the opposite of socialism, as the modern left would have you believe. They *are* socialism,” Lee claimed on social media.
Except that’s not true. Historians overwhelmingly agree that communism and socialism are left-wing, while Nazism and fascism are right-wing. In fact, Lee’s claim is so odious that historian Federico Finchelstein, an expert on fascism and Nazism, called him out.
“Historian of Fascism here. Pls read some history books. Fascism was an anti-socialist & anti-liberal ideology & while it appropriated vocabulary of the left—Nazism’s official name was National Socialist German Workers’ Party—it used it in the service of right-wing domination,” Finchelstein wrote.
“Those who simplify history to argue that fascism is socialism intentionally forget that fascism was about violently fighting socialism (& constitutional liberalism), while displacing concerns x social justice & class struggle & replacing them w/ nationalist & imperialist aggression,” he continued.
Of course, this isn’t stopping Trump supporters from continuing to perpetuate Lee’s claim. The decimation of education in red states has turned their brains into mush, so they are much easier to indoctrinate into their right-wing cult. They aren’t experts like Finchelstein. They don’t have the intelligence and critical thinking skills required to understand just how sinister the Nazis were.
That’s why Republicans have become the Nazis. And the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi.
