Trump’s Latest Attempt To Woo Greenlanders Met With Middle Fingers

The people of Greenland did not hold back as Donald Trump’s envoy went there to bribe them with MAGA hats and chocolate chip cookies, only to be met with middle fingers and rejection.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R), fresh off of canceling an active primary election so the GOP can redraw district lines to eliminate black lawmakers ahead of the 2026 midterm election after the Supreme Court gutted what was left of the Voting Rights Act, is serving as Trump’s handpicked envoy to Greenland this week.

As we all know, Trump has openly stated his obsession with Greenland becoming part of the United States, even though the island belongs to Denmark, a longtime ally. Trump has even threatened to use military force to seize Greenland despite strong opposition from Greenlanders and NATO.

Of course, it’s not about helping Greenland or the United States; it’s about helping Trump and his friends gain access to Greenland’s vast resources. The United States already has a military presence on the island, so Trump’s claim that Russia and China pose a threat to the island is bunk, especially since an attack by Russia or China would draw an immediate NATO response.

So, Trump is trying a different approach, albeit one he is very familiar with. He’s trying to bribe Greenlanders. The problem is that the overwhelming majority of them aren’t buying his schtick.

According to the New York Times, Landry traveled to the island under orders to “make new friends,” but as he tried to hand out free MAGA hats and promised children all the chocolate chip cookies they could eat if they ever made it to Louisiana, 2,900 miles away, he did not get the response he was hoping for.

“Within hours of landing on Sunday in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, Mr. Landry was touring the town in a cold drizzle when one Greenlander gave his entourage the finger,” the Times reported. “After he offered some MAGA hats to Greenlandic children, several shook their heads.”

Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Neilsen was not amused. “We have our red lines,” he said. “And no matter how many chocolate cookies we get, we are not going to change them.”

Locals are particularly worried about losing their public healthcare system. It’s a popular system that works and is paid for through tax revenues. The American system, meanwhile, makes healthcare a nightmare to navigate as insurance companies act more as death panels for profit.

Greenland doesn’t want to be part of the United States. The locals have made that quite clear. Once again, Trump is an embarrassment and a failure.
