Donald Trump just forced the Department of Justice (DOJ), through his personal attorney and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, to give him, his family, and his companies blanket immunity for all future tax crimes as part of a supposed “settlement” to end his lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
In yet another episode of how our nation has become a banana republic, Trump’s DOJ, which is headed by his own personal attorney, in what should be considered a major conflict of interest, granted him, his family, and his businesses immunity for all future tax crimes.
According to documents flagged by CBS News’ Scott MacFarlane, the DOJ terms state that “The United States RELEASES, WAIVES, ACQUITS, and FOREVER DISCHARGES” each of the plaintiffs from and is hereby FOREVER BARRED and PRECLUDED from prosecuting or pursuing any and all claims, counterclaims, causes of action, appeals, or requests for any relief” from the Trumps or their companies.
This latest travesty of justice follows the DOJ’s creation of a $1.8 billion slush fund to pay off Trump’s insurrectionists for trying to overthrow the government on January 6, 2021, to prevent Joe Biden from taking office after winning the 2020 Election.
Of course, this is a sham. The government cannot declare someone immune from all future criminal and civil actions. This is the action of a criminal and his crime family who know they are committing crimes and want to get away with it. It’s as simple as that.
Not only should the next president order the Department of Justice to rip up this document, but the DOJ and IRS should both aggressively pursue charges against Trump, his family, and his companies until they are all in prison and his companies shuttered.
And this should include charges of treason. No one is above the law, not even Trump. It’s time he learned that lesson the hard way.
