GOP Rep Trolls Party Amid Reports That Mitch McConnell Is Unfit To Serve

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been absent from the chamber for over three weeks after suffering a cardiac event. As reports surface that he may be brain-dead and unfit to serve, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is pushing a new bill.

McConnell suffered a heart attack on June 14th, according to aides, and was reportedly found unconscious before he was taken to the hospital. McConnell’s wife, a former Trump administration official, flew to China soon after to meet with Chinese officials, a suspicious move given the timing and the fact that she’s no longer a government official.

But McConnell’s absence from the Senate has drawn criticism because if he’s unable to perform his duties, he should step down so a special election can be held to fill his seat so Kentucky can once again have full representation. However, it appears McConnell and the Republican Party are trying to evade that scenario so Republicans can maintain their Senate majority.

His absence is also generating reports that his condition is far worse than just a heart attack. The Daily Beast reports that one of Trump’s closest minions, Laura Loomer, allegedly has inside information from a White House source that McConnell won’t be coming back to do his job because he’s allegedly “brain-dead.”

“High level source close to the White House tells me ‘Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back,’” she wrote on social media.

So far, this report has not been confirmed, but McConnell’s absence is still a problem. McConnell is 84 years old. He already freezes while taking questions from the press. He has also fallen. A heart attack at his age could be debilitating to the point where he can no longer serve ably in the Senate. Most Americans need a doctor’s note to miss work for even a day, while McConnell has missed several weeks in silence.

The silence appears to be a delay tactic to avoid a special election that could see a Democrat or outgoing GOP Rep. Thomas Massie fill the seat. Either scenario would be a real thorn in Trump’s side. Massie even trolled Republicans on social media by asking if everyone is ready for legislation setting term limits for members of the House and Senate.

Americans deserve answers. Kentucky deserves answers. If Mitch McConnell is incapable of serving, a special election must be held to fill his seat. Republicans have no right to hide his condition to avoid it.
