AOC Perfectly Explains Why GOP ‘Communism’ Accusations Are Bullsh*t

As Republicans ramp up their “communism” accusations against the Democratic Party in a desperate bid to hold onto power, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) masterfully explained to a reporter why such accusations are complete bullsh*t.

Democratic Socialists are not communists, but they are pushing to bring the Democratic Party back to its liberal and progressive foundation. Plus, they are winning. That’s why Republicans and several corporate Democrats are freaking out across the country and screaming about imaginary communism.

While being hounded by reporters about the accusations, AOC denied that the Democratic Party is becoming communist and explained why.

“No, I’m not concerned about America turning into a communist country in like a year,” she began. “I think it’s very silly. Just think about how impossible it has been to raise the minimum wage in America in ten, fifteen, twenty years. We can’t even raise the minimum wage!”

Indeed, raising the minimum wage is not even a controversial issue among a majority of Americans. But the federal minimum wage still stands at a measly $7.25 an hour. Raising the wage won’t turn the country into a communist nation, but Republicans want everyone to think that so they won’t fight for what benefits them.

However, AOC wasn’t done yet.

“Do Republicans really think that this stuff is going to happen? No, they don’t,” AOC went on to say about the doom and gloom demonizing of communism by Republicans. “They’re trying to scare people because they don’t want us talking about the fact that we all have a right to healthcare in this country. So they want to call it communist, and they want to call everything they don’t like communist because if people actually wake up to the fact that their elected officials are screwing them over when they get here, then they’re going to realize that they deserve better and that healthcare is a right.”

“Is it crazy? It isn’t pie in the sky!” AOC continued. “They want to call this stuff communist cause they don’t want us to realize that the rest of the developed world has guaranteed healthcare. So they want to call it communist cause they don’t want you to know that Germany, Italy, the UK, Canada, everybody else has it better than us! And we spent the most amount of money for the worst care in the modern developed world.”

She is not wrong. Every developed nation on the planet has universal healthcare. Most also have paternity and maternity leave, sick days and sick pay, more vacation time, free education, childcare, and more. These are NOT communist nations. They are democracies that actually tax the wealthy and corporations to build a society that works for everyone.

But if that’s what Republicans are calling communism these days, then sign me up. It’s better than what they are offering.
