Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy only smiled after a reporter asked him about Donald Trump’s escalating problems as the 2026 midterm elections approach, drawing laughter from the audience at an EU summit in Brussels on Friday.
Diesel and gas prices in general have been soaring since Trump started an unprovoked war with Iran in February, resulting in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The higher cost of fuel has also caused grocery prices to rise, as well as inflation, which is now worse than during the Biden administration.
The price of diesel in the United States is now a staggering $6.19 a gallon. It was only $3.81 a gallon prior to Trump starting the war with Iran. Of course, Trump is now trying to pin the blame on Ukraine for attacking diesel refineries in Russia, even though an analysis found that those hits have had little impact on overall diesel prices.
The real reason why fuel prices in the United States are soaring is because of Trump’s war with Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Trump then became so desperate to appear to be doing something about the prices that he dropped sanctions against Russia and agreed to buy a paltry amount of diesel that would barely move the needle even if it were to make it into the country before Election Day.
And so, Trump’s midterm woes continue, much to the delight of Zelenskyy, who has had to put up with terrible treatment and open disrespect from Trump over the last couple of years. His delight was evident during the summit when Sky News Europe reporter Alistair Bunkall asked him about it.
“President Trump is facing pretty difficult midterm elections,” Bunkall said. “His personal popularity is very low. Diesel prices in the U.S. are very high. And the war that he started in the Middle East is not going the way he wants it. Do you think you are being treated as a scapegoat for his own problems?”
Zelenskyy didn’t even have to say anything. His smirk alone said it all. And the attendees at the EU summit laughed at Trump in response.
The international consensus is clear. Trump is nothing but a joke. He became Putin’s little b*tch for nothing.
