The only way Trump’s mass deportation plan can work is if he concentrates the brown people he will inevitably indiscriminately target in special camps. According to Trump, the plan is to declare a national emergency, deploy the military on US soil, and use them to round up migrants, who will be placed in camps as they wait to be deported. And now Texas has officially offered Trump land for his concentration camps.
During Trump’s campaign, his surrogates were advised to stop saying they’ll put migrants in “camps” because “apparently some people think it makes [them] look like Nazis.” This is absolutely true. But not talking about it doesn’t change Trump’s plans — and Texas is very, very on board.
Texas Officially Offers Trump Land For Concentration Camps
The Texas General Land Office has “obeyed in advance” by offering Trump a 1,400-acre ranch on which he can build some concentration camps. In a letter sent Tuesday, Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham told Trump that Texas is “fully prepared” to provide the land “to allow a facility to be built for the processing, detention, and coordination of the largest deportation of violent criminals in the nation’s history.” Like Trump, Buckingham ignores that undocumented immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than U.S. citizens and that Trump released twice as many undocumented immigrants who were charged with crimes than did Biden. Trump separated families, threw children in camps, and chose to deport otherwise law-abiding undocumented immigrants, resulting in a complete failure of his plans even by his own standards.
“As Texas Land Commissioner and steward of over 13 million acres, it’s been my promise to all Texans since assuming my role at the GLO to use every tool at my disposal to gain complete operational control of our southern border,” Buckingham said in a press release earlier this week. “This is why I am offering President-elect Trump over 1,400 acres of state land on the southern border to aid his administration in carrying out their deportation plans to place the safety and well-being of all Americans first and foremost.”
We Will Be The Ones Trump Hurts
Trump says he plans to launch his mass deportation operation on “day one.” Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan has been very clear that Trump intends to split up mixed-status families. Asked about that, Homan said that “they can be deported together” — meaning he intends to “deport” citizens along with their “illegal” spouses. Now, the state of Texas is joining in — enthusiastically — what will be remembered as one of the darkest times in American history. Homan has also threatened “sanctuary cities” if they do not cooperate in Trump’s objectively evil plans.
“If we can’t get assistance from New York City, we may have to double the number of agents we send to New York City,” Homan said on Fox & Friends in a recent interview. “Because we’re going to do the job with you or without you.” Failure to cooperate will cause Homan “to flood agents to the sanctuary cities to get the job done.”
Homan asked in a recent interview. “what price do you put on national security?” The price is high, and there is no evidence Trump’s plan will help with national security in any meaningful way. Trump’s mass deportation plan is expected to raise prices on produce and cost as much as $315 billion just to carry out — and that’s just the beginning. Removing that many people from the workforce — especially in the categories of jobs undocumented workers typically take — will lead to labor disruptions and massive economic damage. In addition, the United States will miss out on the $50 billion in federal taxes and $30 billion in state taxes undocumented immigrants pay per year and $28 billion they pay into Medicare and Social Security — two programs Trump wants to eliminate.
Simply put, carrying out Trump’s mass deportation plan will be akin to lighting our economy on fire and watching it burn. But at least his supporters will be happy watching their leader torment Brown people.
