Donald Trump openly accused the New York Times and CNN of “sedition” on Thursday over their coverage of his war in Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is still closed. Oil and gas prices are still soaring across the country to record highs as summer approaches, and somehow, Donald Trump still says the war in Iran has been won. And he is still demanding glowing news coverage that covers up his failures in the region.
While once again speaking with reporters, Trump specifically targeted CNN and the New York Times for running unflattering stories about his war in Iran, a war that he started unprovoked, in which several American servicemen and women have been killed and several of our bases destroyed.
“And yet in I read in The New York Times, I see it on the stupid CNN, which I only watch because you have to watch a little bit of the enemy, so I watch it for a very short period,” Trump began. “But you have to, you have to be smart. And if you see CNN, you’d think they’re winning the war. If you read The New York Times, it’s actually seditious, in my opinion. You read The New York Times you actually think they’re winning the war. I read some of these columnists and — but it all starts at the top. It’s a terrible thing.”
Accusing the media of sedition for not lying to the American people to make you look good is what a dictator does. If the United States has already “won” the war against Iran, why is the military still over there by the thousands? Why isn’t the oil flowing through the still-closed Strait of Hormuz? A war that Trump claimed would be quick has only dragged on with no end in sight, and could still escalate at his whim.
The New York Times and CNN haven’t committed sedition, but Trump sure has committed treason. He has bankrupted our country like one of his casinos and spilled American blood by starting a war that has directly impacted the finances of already struggling American families. And he did it all to line his own pockets. He’s a criminal, and we need to treat him as such.
