Donald Trump had a chance to show reporters evidence of his claim that the Reflecting Pool has been “vandalized.” He couldn’t provide any and threw a tantrum when reporters called him out on it.
The 2,000-foot shallow pool of water stretches from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument, reflecting both monuments and the sky above them. It’s a national treasure that sees thousands of tourists every year.
Sadly, Trump’s obsession with transforming Washington DC into a giant vanity project ended up touching the Reflecting Pool. Trump not only hired a shady contractor to “fix” the pool, but he also demanded it be painted blue and removed the filtration system former President Barack Obama had installed to combat algae.
The cost to the American people ran up to nearly $15 million. And it became an obvious waste of taxpayer dollars when the water turned green due to thick algae growth. To make matters worse, Trump ordered hydrogen peroxide to be dumped into the water to kill the algae. This action only exacerbated the problem with painting the bottom, as the paint started to peel and has been rising to the surface ever since.
With the Reflecting Pool now a toxic soup of algae, paint, and hydrogen peroxide, Trump is desperately trying to cover up his failure by claiming that “vandalism” is the cause. Seriously.
“Work will begin immediately on fixing the seriously vandalized Reflecting Pool,” Trump wrote on social media. “I just inspected it, and could only say to myself, and those gathered around me, WOW, who would do such a thing? SICK, DERANGED PEOPLE! We will fix it?”
His claims of vandalism are false, of course. Lies for the purpose of covering for his own humiliating incompetence and corruption. Reporters also inspected the Reflecting Pool to find evidence of vandalism, but could not find any.
That’s why CBS News reporter Ed O’Keefe asked Trump to provide evidence of his claim on Monday, only for Trump to throw a fit while demonstrating he has no proof of vandalism.
“When you have a 350-foot slit, do you think that’s proof?” Trump responded to O’Keefe’s question.
“Reporters have been down there today looking for that slit you mentioned. There’s no evidence,” O’Keefe fired back.
“All you have to do is see the parks department. They’ll show it to you,” Trump claimed.
Trump has such a big ego that you would think he would absolutely post photos of any vandalism if he saw actual vandalism. Americans are being arrested for merely touching the water or the peeling paint pieces floating on the surface.
The Reflecting Pool used to be a place where Americans could enjoy the water and our nation’s grandeur in peace. Now it’s a chaotic mess that Trump is trying to cover up by lying about vandalism and having Americans arrested by police. The truth is, Trump IS the vandal who vandalized the Reflecting Pool in the first place.
