Americans Mock New National Gallery Portrait Of Donald Trump

In yet another effort to rewrite history, Donald Trump forced the National Portrait Gallery to display a new portrait of him and remove any references to his two impeachments, drawing a fresh flurry of mockery.

On Saturday, the White House took to social media to crow about the new portrait, as if we’re all supposed to be impressed by Trump pretending to be a strong authoritarian as he leans into the Resolute Desk with both fists against the top surface in black and white.

The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute is not supposed to engage in such propaganda, but Trump and his lackeys have taken it upon themselves to turn everything in Washington into an ego-stroking competition. The new portrait follows Trump’s order to add his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which has been thoroughly mocked and continues to spark strong backlash since adding Trump’s name to the institution is illegal.

The reaction to Trump’s new portrait didn’t go well either, beyond the MAGA fans who see Trump as their daddy, of course.

Typically, a president is at the end of their tenure or out of office before their portrait is installed in the National Gallery. This is yet another case of Trump trying to make everything about him. But what Trump is doing is only finding approval from a small portion of Americans.

The reality is Donald Trump is one of the weakest presidents, if not THE weakest president, in our history. He has thin skin and can be easily bought with trinkets such as the newly invented FIFA “peace prize,” which Americans and the world mocked.

Regardless of how he gets ousted, future administrations should work to erase everything he’s done and place consequences on those who enabled him. Ultimately, if Trump can’t be punished for his crimes, the worst thing we can do to him is make sure his name and image are nowhere to be found.
