Oh no, folks! The people who call others “snowflakes” and target marginalized groups with “safe space” taunts when they have a problem with the racist, homophobic, and sexist garbage regularly spewed by conservatives…need a safe space. Boston College Republicans’ Executive Board penned an op-ed in the campus newspaper in which they whine that their friends are being mean to them just because they chose to vote for a racist, xenophobic misogynist failed businessman and felon who campaigned almost 100 percent on transphobia and a 2024 rendition of “Operation W*tback.”
On Sunday, The Heights published one of the whiniest, most pathetic, most self-pitying pieces ever penned by a group of Republicans — and that’s saying something!
“The last few days have seen escalating attacks on conservative students at Boston College in the wake of President Donald Trump’s reelection,” the open letter reads. “Conservative students have been targeted on social media and on campus, being told that they condone rape, sexism, racism, and every other ‘ism’ in the English dictionary.”
Just to be clear, they are spending the opening paragraph complaining that people on campus are recognizing and talking about their repulsive beliefs. Trump regularly brags about ending Roe v. Wade, his surrogates and fans (especially in this demographic) have been taunting women with “your body my choice” taunts since the election, Trump is literally a rapist, and they definitely have every other -ism covered as well.
“We will no longer sit idly by while unhinged people openly defame the character of students who voted for President Trump,” they add, as though they actually have any character to speak of. “This intimidation and hate speech should not be tolerated and we call upon all students, faculty, and staff to reflect on their harmful words.”
Ironically, they are complaining about “hate speech,” despite conservatives’ fondness for it. In fact, suicide hotlines spiked with calls after Trump’s election specifically because the policies these absolute monsters support will do them very real harm. Despite MAGA’s entire M.O. being hate and division, the BC Republicans disingenuously quoted Joe Biden — “You can’t love your country only when you win. You can’t love your neighbor only when you agree” –as they for likely the first time in their miserable lives called for “unity both on campus and in the greater BC community.”
Don’t fall for this. Every single one of these people would watch you be hauled away to a camp with a smile on their face. They don’t get to spew hatred against every single non-white race, try to strip rights from women and the LGBTQIA+ community (and pretty much every other marginalized group), and then call for “unity.” Their brand of “unity” is one in which no decent person would be interested.
Boston College has seen its fair share of hate — but not the kind they mention. There is an entire Reddit thread from years ago in which former students discuss racism they experienced on campus. The environment is so toxic that it has made national headlines. Perhaps instead of whining that people recognize the hatred they support, BC Republicans could call for an end to the numerous — numerous — racist incidents on campus. But they probably participated.
