Donald Trump’s war against Iran and subsequent failures to negotiate terms of a settlement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz have led to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz bluntly remarking that Iran is “humiliating” the United States.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to Trump ordering military strikes against the country with zero provocation. The United States military has committed war crimes. Our allies are turning against us. The economy is crumbling, especially due to the soaring cost of gasoline and oil.
It’s a quagmire that Trump should never have gotten us into, and it continues to drag on. Our allies are not holding back anymore, either, as German Chancellor Merz told a group of students on Monday that Iran is “humiliating” Trump and the United States.
“The Iranians are clearly stronger than expected, and the Americans clearly have no truly convincing strategy in the negotiations either,” Merz said, according to a Deutsche Welle report. “The problem with conflicts like this is always: You don’t just have to get in, you have to get out again. We saw that very painfully in Afghanistan for 20 years. We saw it in Iraq.”
Indeed, and Trump promised his own supporters that he would not start any more wars, especially a war in the Middle East. He clearly lied, and American lives have been lost because of it.
“At the moment, I do not see what strategic exit the Americans will choose, especially since the Iranians are clearly negotiating very skillfully—or very skillfully not negotiating,” Merz continued. “An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, particularly by the so-called Revolutionary Guards.”
Trump has repeatedly threatened to do the worst to Iran, and they have called his bluff every single time. He literally thinks he can intimidate Iran to do as he demands, but that has not happened. Trump already has zero credibility, and he only looks more pathetic every time Iran makes him look like a fool.
The best thing our country can do is remove Trump from power and replace him with legitimate leaders who won’t embarrass us on the international stage. But one thing is certain. Trump has damaged our reputation, and it could take years or even decades to fix it.
