Fresh off embarrassing himself by backing an autocrat in a losing election in Hungary, faceplanting while criticizing Pope Leo, and failing to reach a deal to end the war in Iran, JD Vance once again fumbled the ball by admitting Donald Trump is an economic terrorist.
As Iran continues to rightfully block the United States and Israel from accessing the Strait of Hormuz, Trump announced this week that the United States will also blockade the critical waterway so Iranian shipping cannot pass through either. Once again, it’s an escalation of a crisis Trump caused since the Strait of Hormuz had been open before the unprovoked military strikes he ordered, strikes that murdered 165 schoolgirls and should be considered a war crime.
Trump’s folly in Iran has also been causing economic pain here at home as gas prices continue to rise and inflation balloons. It’s a complete failure of Trump, and Vance only piled on, even though he seemed to think he was helping him by defending his decision to order a blockade of Iran’s blockade on Monday during an appearance on Fox News.
Vance appeared to admit that Trump is engaging in economic terrorism after accusing Iran of engaging in economic terrorism.
“As the president of the United States showed, two can play at that game,” Vance said. “And if the Iranians are going to try to engage in economic terrorism, we’re going to abide by a simple principle that no Iranian ships are getting out either. We know that’s a big deal to them.”
This is quite the oopsy from Vance. One blockade cannot be economic terrorism, while the other blockade is considered just. Iran did not provoke the initial military strikes and only closed the Strait in response, which the Iranians have the right to do.
Trump and his minions have already committed war crimes against Iran and have repeatedly threatened to commit genocide. Trump has also ordered strikes against civilian infrastructure, something terrorists generally target. Only one side is acting like a terrorist in this crisis, and it’s not Iran.
