Republicans talk a lot about voter fraud. They insist that a lot of it is happening. And while voter fraud is exceedingly rare, they always seem to be the ones behind any instances of it. For instance, in Colorado, a MAGA postal worker stole mail ballots and voted illegally with them with the help of her “Independent” voter friend.
A Columbia University study found that most claims of voter fraud can be traced to “false claims by the loser of a close race, mischief and administrative or voter error.” And a Washington Post study published in 2014 found 31 credible reports of voter fraud out of over a billion votes cast. But in recent years, spurred by Trump’s false claims of rampant voter fraud, MAGA has committed crimes to prove crime exists. And law enforcement has caught most or all of it thanks to one of the few systems in our country that works well.
In 2020, a MAGA man in Colorado used his deceased wife’s ballot to give Trump an extra vote. This seems like a strange decision, as Republicans regularly complain that dead people are voting. He was caught easily. A Pennsylvania Trump supporter used his deceased mother’s identity to cast an absentee ballot for Trump. In Minnesota this year, a Trump supporter cast a ballot for Trump in her dead mother’s name. As always with conservatives, allegations equal confessions.
MAGA Postal Worker Stole Mail Ballots
Meet Vicki Lynn Stuart and Sally Jane Maxedon. These two Colorado women were so sure liberals cheated that they had to do it themselves. Or something. The pair stole mail ballots and cast them fraudulently before the election. They found this easy because Stuart works for the United States Postal Service.
Maxedon, a registered Republican, and her partner say they were “testing” the county’s signature verification system used to match voter signatures to the ones in state records. Stewart stole, allegedly, “six or seven” while the postal worker acted as a substitute on the route from which the ballots disappeared.
Maxedon filled out the ballots, forged the signature, and gave them to Stuart. Stuart then mailed them in. Officials have identified at least 12 ballots sent in by the pair — a significant number more than they claimed. Of the dozen or so ballots, three managed to make it through. Those votes counted for Trump in Mesa County.
They got themselves caught when the system, contrary to their belief, worked. Said system flagged multiple ballots. When election officials reached out to the actual people, they learned those folks had not received a ballot or voted. Investigators identified Maxedon through a fingerprint match in a law enforcement database. So far, prosecutors have identified 16 known victims, though there may be 20 or more.
“I am deeply grateful for the diligence and thorough efforts of the District Attorney’s Office in addressing this matter,” says Mesa County Clerk Bobbie Gross, a Republican. “I am proud our security measures are effective, and we will remain vigilant to safeguard the integrity of our elections.”
Republicans Love Voter Fraud
Mesa County is also where Trump-affiliated election denier Tina Peters committed some election shenanigans. While serving as Mesa County Clerk, Peters gave My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell access to voting equipment. In 2024, a jury found Peters guilty of attempting to influence a public servant, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, official misconduct, violation of duty, and failing to comply with the Secretary of State’s regulations. She currently serves nine years in prison. Lindell, for some reason, is still a free man.
This year, Republicans have pulled out all the stops. Ballot boxes mysteriously ignited. MAGA intimidated voters at the polls and via text message all across the country. A former Indiana House of Representatives candidate — Republican, of course — stole ballots as well. On top of that, bomb threats associated with Russian email addresses targeted Democratic areas and voter suppression became almost a sport in MAGAland.
We don’t know the extent of the Election Day games MAGA has played and we may never find out. This, of course, is worrisome.
