The entire Biden presidency, the GOP has been falsely claiming Biden has “dementia.” Though Biden has done his job masterfully and left Trump with a strong economy to ruin, it was all they talked about, especially Trump who clearly is slipping into dementia himself. Democrats have been accused heavily of “hiding” Biden’s dementia, so it should shock no one that the GOP literally hid a Congresswoman with dementia in a senior home.
Texas Congresswoman Kay Granger last voted in the House on July 24. While typically, missed votes from a Texas congressperson would be welcome in the eyes of those who value sanity in policy, many have been wondering where Granger, who has missed 54 percent of votes this year, disappeared to. Apparently, the GOP hid her in a nursing home and didn’t talk about it — all the while bleating to the press about President Biden’s alleged dementia issues.
A senior Republican tells Fox News that Granger, who returned to the Capitol for the unveiling of her portrait as Appropriations Committee Chairwoman, betrayed her constituents and refused to step down because “Frankly, we needed the numbers.” In other words, stopping Joe Biden’s efforts to fix the damage left over from Trump’s first term in office was more important than Granger’s well-being or her constituents, who put her in office to represent them — a typical stance we can expect from the GOP.
Republicans Hid Kay Granger In Senior Home
The GOP has selfishly kept Granger in office despite her inability and unwillingness to serve her constituents solely because they needed her vote to preserve a razor-thin majority. After receiving a tip that Granger had been found wandering her neighborhood and was living full-time in the memory care unit of a retirement community, the Dallas Express investigated. They found that Granger’s staff had packed up and left her office before Thanksgiving. Calls to her office went unanswered except by voicemail. Despite this, her staff will be paid until January 25. Staff at the facility confirms that she lives there.
Granger’s son calls the reporting “a load of bulls–t” and says she moved into a condo at the facility because she was getting lonely. She is not living in the memory care unit. “They have a memory care facility there, but she’s in [an] independent living facility. It’s a nice condo. I helped her move in,” Brandon Granger says, though he acknowledges that his mother was “having some dementia issues late in the year.”
“Kay Granger is not in Memory Care,” Granger’s office, seemingly reactivated just for this statement, said Sunday. “As many of my family, friends, and colleagues have known, I have been navigating some unforeseen health challenges over the past year,” the 81-year-old Granger says via a spokesperson, noting that “health challenges have progressed making frequent travel to Washington both difficult and unpredictable.”
Granger is no stranger to controversy. She submitted an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in favor of overturning Roe v. Wade. She has also corruptly directed earmarks to infrastructure projects that benefited her family — because that’s what Republicans do.
Kay Granger has chosen to retire — thankfully — at the end of her term. But she should have stepped away the moment it was clear she could not serve her constituents. This highlights issues many have raised with term limits in Congress, as five members of the Senate and nearly a dozen in the House of Representatives are over 80. The incoming President has exhibited clear signs of dementia.
It’s well past time that we set an upper age limit for Congress. It is in our best interest to populate our government with people who represent the future of the nation and can carry out their duties on behalf of their constituents.
