Donald Trump proved once again that he is Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s puppet by signing an executive order pausing sanctions against Russia that were passed by Congress. Now, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) wants answers.
Congress passed sanctions against Russia by a vote of 86-11 in the Senate. Named for the late Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), the legislation was signed into law by Trump. Although the sanctions had not gone into effect quite yet, an executive order does not override a law.
But Trump is ignoring the law anyway to give Putin a gift, which will ultimately provide money to Russia to use against Ukraine. It’s a slap in the face to Graham, who rightfully understood that Russia is an enemy of the United States and of democracy.
Not long after Trump signed the executive order, Tillis blasted him on social media.
“Beyond irresponsible. What part of enforcing a law passed 86-11 by the Senate does the President and his advisors not understand?” Tillis wrote. “It’s unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator who illegally invaded Ukraine and butchers innocent civilians every single day. If the President wants to actually bring down energy prices, he can do it by solving the Iran problem, not by doing a solid for Vladimir Putin.”
Trump excused putting the law on hold by citing “national interests.” But, again, the president does not have this power. Only Congress can repeal a law. This scheme to help Russia is illegal and unconstitutional. Senate Republicans, especially those who knew Lindsey Graham, should be furious. Graham’s own sister, Darline Graham, must also feel that Trump betrayed her and her brother since she cast her vote for the sanctions bill after filling the seat in his stead shortly after his death in July.
Donald Trump is a traitor. He’s a Russian stooge who is a dangerous threat to the national security of the United States. He must be removed at all costs. And everything he has done in the service of Putin and Russia must be reversed.
