In yet another example of Republicans wanting to turn back the clock, New Hampshire Republicans were literally caught advocating for a return to segregation.
Segregation was a national embarrassment because it divided the country on racial grounds. White people attended white schools, while black people attended black schools. The same went for society beyond education. There were separate water fountains, restaurants, graveyards, nightclubs, sports leagues, military units, and more. This is how white racists across the South continued to treat people of color as less than American, less than human.
Despite the end of segregation, Republicans are advocating for a return to these racist Jim Crow laws. In New Hampshire, GOP State Rep. Kristin Noble, who is also the chair of the House Education Policy and Administration Committee, did so in a leaked Signal chat with other Republicans on the committee, according to the Granite Post News.
“When we have segregated schools we can add all the fun stuff lol,” Noble wrote, going on to add, “imagine the scores though if we had schools for them and some for us.”
One of her colleagues, GOP State Rep. Katy Peternel responded with a laughing emoji.
Here’s an image of the chat:

Segregation is not funny, and it’s certainly not consistent with the Constitution. When asked for an explanation, Noble claimed she meant political segregation. In short, schools would be separated by political party.
“Republicans have been self-segregating out of the leftist indoctrination centers for decades,” Noble said, according to New Hampshire Public Radio. “If democrats had their own schools, and we had our own, families wouldn’t need to avail themselves of the wildly successful education freedom account program. It’s a win / win proposition.”
No, it’s not. It means only half of the country (the Democrats) would have an education based on facts and critical thinking, while Republicans would be indoctrinated with hateful, racist bullsh*t and left ignorant of the world around them and their own history. It would be a disaster. Of course, Noble’s words echo recent whining by Elon Musk, who thinks teachers who teach anything but right-wing propaganda should be charged with treason.
This is precisely why Republicans cannot be trusted with education in this country. The people of New Hampshire should be asking themselves how they could allow someone so hateful and ignorant to chair the education committee in their state. We are falling behind because of Republicans like Noble, and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t stop them.
