Do you remember that time when Donald Trump’s spokesperson, Harrison Fields, said that Trump “had nothing to do with Project 2025”?
Or when Donald personally declared that he is “not an extremist at all,” before openly telling the American public that Project 2025 and all of its authors are “part of the far-Right”?
Maybe you’ll recall the ABC News presidential debate in 2024, when Trump had this to say about Project 2025: “I have nothing to do with Project 2025. I haven’t read it. I don’t want to read it purposely. I’m not going to read it. This was a group of people that got together, they came up with some ideas, I guess some good, some bad, but it makes no difference. I have nothing to do [with it].”
Or there’s the time he said, “They’ve been told officially, legally, in every way, that we have nothing to do with Project 25. They know it, but they bring it up anyway. They bring up every single thing that you can bring up. Every one of them was false.”
My point here is, everyone who’s not been living under an actual rock for the last decade or so can certainly recall at least a few times in which they heard Donald Trump say, with words from his own mouth, or post on his own Right-wing echo chamber social media platform, “Project 2025? Who’s that? Don’t know her. Never heard of her.”
So, imagine our collective surprise (or lack thereof if you’ve ever experienced even a fleeting moment of the complete and utter stack of BS in an ill-fitting suit that is Donald Trump) when we woke to this humdinger posted on Donald’s Truth Social bright and early this morning:
I have a meeting today with Russ Vought, he of PROJECT 2025 Fame, to determine which of the many Democrat Agencies, most of which are a political SCAM, he recommends to be cut, and whether or not those cuts will be temporary or permanent. I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT”
I gotta tell ya, Donald. That sounds like you’ve heard of them. That sounds like you know them. Dare I say, that sounds like you’ve had ’em over for dinner.
That sounds like you lied.
Trump’s precious government is in a shutdown, effective as of October 1st, 12 AM EST, and folks aren’t thrilled. Folks are, in fact, the opposite of thrilled.
As such, President Trump is doing everything within his power to convince the American people that this isn’t actually his fault, even a little, or his party’s fault, but rather the fault of the big, bad, demon Democrats who… GOD FORBID, want American citizens to be able to afford healthcare so they maybe won’t… Ya know… Die, or something.
However, in his desperation to damage control the absolute shitstorm he’s ignited in this country with less than even a full year of “president-ing” in his second term under his belt, it seems that Donald failed to refer back to his running list of previous lies he told right to the faces of the American people.
Ya know, like when he said he didn’t know these Project 2025 folks. Like when he called them far-Right extremists. Like when he failed to mention his working professional and likely deeply personal relationship with Russell Vought, the man who quite literally co-authored the Heritage Foundation’s policy blueprint and founded the Center for Renewing America Conservative think tank that still to this day serves a pivotal role on the Project 2025 advisory board.
So, if you don’t mind, please excuse us while we go revel in this big, fat, whopping “told ya so.”
