Trump Depicts The Obamas As Monkeys In Racist Social Media Post

Just when you thought there wasn’t a new low that Donald Trump could stoop to, he goes and decides to post his racism on social media for all to see, despite claiming not to be racist.

In a social media post on his own platform, Trump posted a video featuring former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, depicting them as monkeys, a common racist attack against people of color.

Trump’s top propagandist, Karoline Leavitt, immediately tried to cover for him.

“This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King,” she said in a statement to Deadline. “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”

Needless to say, the backlash has been swift. In a statement of his own, California Governor Gavin Newsom called on Republicans to denounce Trump and his “disgusting behavior.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked the Obamas, including pushing a right-wing conspiracy that Obama was not born in the United States, only to be humiliated when Obama released his birth certificate showing that he was, indeed, born in Hawaii.

This racist post also comes in the same week as reports that Trump intends to install a statue of Christopher Columbus in front of the White House. White supremacists have frequently used Columbus as a symbol of supposed white superiority over “inferior” native populations. Undoubtedly, Trump has the same intention.

So, Trump intends to honor a racist who committed genocide and then posts a racist meme depicting the Obamas as apes in the same week. It just adds to the clear pattern demonstrating that Trump is a racist, and every time Republicans defend him or remain silent, they only demonstrate that they are also racists.
