Trump Lets Caitlyn Jenner Use Women’s Restroom

Recently, right-wing bigot Nancy Mace made headlines when she authored a resolution specifically targeting incoming transgender Delaware Congresswoman Satah McBride. Mace, who regularly spews hate speech at marginalized people, sought to ban McBride from using the bathroom at the Capitol. House Speaker Mike Johnson changed the rules and banned McBride from women’s restrooms. And while Donald Trump regularly spews the same hate speech as Jenner and spent mullions of dollars running anti-trans ads, Trump lets Caitlyn Jenner use the women’s restroom at Mar-a-Lago.

Donald Trump spent over $200 million running anti-trans television ads demonizing people for just wanting to exist — an absurd amount that is roughly equal to $134 for every trans people who exists in the United States, according to Harvard Law Cyberlaw Clinic’s Alejandra Caraballo. The GOP is doing all it can to make America a toxic environment for trans folks, and even Congresswomen aren’t safe. But if you’re one of the “good ones” in their eyes, they will absolutely treat you as something approaching human as long as they view you as an asset.

Under a photo of Trump, who funded a multimillion dollar smear campaign targeting trans people, Elon Musk, who repeatedly deadnames his trans daughter, Kai Trump, whose cocaine-addled dad calls her “sexy,” and Jenner, someone asked if they “all used the bathroom together.”

“We do not,” Jenner replied, indicating that she does not use the same bathroom as they do.

Trump and his allies express open hatred of transgender people — especially women — yet when a transgender person shows up to hang out with Trump, they are suddenly human in the eyes of MAGA.

Transgender folks — yes, even the ones who don’t hang out at Trump’s place — deserve to be treated with the same dignity as anyone else. But the GOP would instead prefer to target them so they can use the insecurities and hatred of their base to get votes. Jenner has an opportunity to lobby the GOP on behalf of transgender Americans. But she instead chooses to enjoy the benefit of being “one of the good ones” while abandoning her community to the whims of conservative lawmakers and the hate mobs they inspire with their harmful rhetoric.
