Trump Says He’ll Ignore SCOTUS And Continue War Against Birthright Citizenship

Despite a 6-3 decision by the Supreme Court rejecting his attempt to overturn birthright citizenship enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, Donald Trump says he’s going to ignore the court.

On the first day of his second term, Trump issued an executive order to end birthright citizenship in the United States. Of course, he can’t do that because the Constitution explicitly protects birthright citizenship.

According to the 14th Amendment,

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

The Constitution is clear on the subject. There is zero wiggle room for alternative interpretation. If you’re born here, you’re a citizen. It’s been this way since 1868, and the Supreme Court agreed in a 6-3 majority ruling on Tuesday that dealt a blow to Trump’s racist anti-immigration agenda.

Of course, Trump doesn’t care about the rules. Even though the Supreme Court has the final say on this subject unless the United States amends the Constitution, this should be the end of the line for his war against birthright citizenship. But in response to the ruling, Trump claimed Congress can end birthright citizenship without amending the Constitution.

“The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process,” Trump declared in a social media post.

“No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary!” he continued. “Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support!”

Except the ONLY way to end birthright citizenship is to pass an amendment to the Constitution, just like when we ended the prohibition of alcohol in this country by passing the 21st Amendment to overturn the 18th Amendment. That’s the way it’s done, and Republicans do not have the votes in Congress, nor do they control enough state legislatures to ratify it.

No matter how many bills Congress may pass. No matter how many of those bills Trump signs. All of them are unconstitutional and will be struck down. His words and actions are those of a wannabe tyrant who isn’t getting his way. Even toddlers are more mature.
