Donald Trump openly threatened to commit genocide against Iran in words that should result in his immediate arrest and trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
In yet another disturbing post on Tuesday morning, ahead of a deadline he set demanding Iran open the Strait of Hormuz to American shipping, and a day after denying that anything he has done constitutes a war crime, Trump directly threatened to wipe out Iranian civilization. In other words, genocide.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump wrote on his social media account. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
Except that regime change didn’t really happen. Reports indicate that the new Ayatollah of Iran, the son of the previous Ayatollah, whom Trump assassinated via military strikes, is more extreme in his views. Trump has also bombed civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and schools, thereby turning any pro-America Iranians soundly against us.
Trump’s threat follows several days in which he repeatedly mocked Islam, which is the dominant religion in Iran and the entire Middle East. His latest post seems to be a threat to use nuclear weapons against Iran, the only weapon capable of killing an entire civilization.
This is a war crime and a crime against humanity. Any government official or member of the military complicit in this action should be prosecuted at The Hague and hanged. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of threat, nor for carrying out such a threat. The other nations of the world must stop Donald Trump. Because Republicans will not, and that makes them complicit with genocide, too.
