Rand Paul Torches Trump’s DHS Nominee During Hearing

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) absolutely torched Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) during a hearing on Wednesday to determine if Mullin is fit to serve as Donald Trump’s new Department of Homeland Security Secretary.

The tension in the room was obvious from the start because Paul and Mullin dislike each other. In the past, Mullin has frequently attacked Paul for not being a Trump sycophant, even applauding violence against the Kentucky senator, which Paul brought to the forefront of the hearing as an example of Mullin’s anger issues.

“You told the media that I was a freakin’ snake and that you completely understood why I had been assaulted,” Paul said. “I just wonder if someone who applauds violence against their political opponents is the right person to lead an agency that has struggled to accept limits to the proper use of force.”

Indeed, DHS oversees ICE, which has committed violence and killings across the country, including the murder of two Americans in Minnesota for exercising their right to protest.

Rather than re-establish accountability and institute reform, Mullin appears poised to ramp up the violence and death that have given the agency a black eye. Paul pointed out that Mullin has never apologized for condoning violence against him.

“Explain to the American public why they should trust a man with anger issues to set the proper example for ICE and Border Patrol agents,” Paul said.

Paul then proceeded to hit Mullin with additional humiliation by playing a supercut video of several instances in which Mullin put his anger and violent personality on display.

Mullin is clearly unfit to serve as the head of DHS, and Rand Paul knows it. He supports violence against Americans to carry out Trump’s dictatorial agenda. That makes him a dangerous choice for DHS. Paul has already made it clear that he will vote against Mullin. The question is, will other Republicans do the right thing as well?
