Donald Trump and Senate Republicans were at a luncheon to air out their grievances when Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) scolded him for his surrender deal with Iran.
The memorandum of understanding that Trump signed at Versailles was reminiscent of the Germans’ surrender to the Allies to end World War I. Trump has frequently insisted that his deal with Iran is a victory for the United States, but the agreement provides Iran with complete control of the Strait of Hormuz, along with hundreds of billions of dollars, while ceding nearly nothing in return.
It’s a complete capitulation that even Republicans have severely criticized as the “worst foreign policy blunder” in American history.
During the luncheon, set up so that Senate Republicans and Trump could air out their grievances after several clashes in recent months, outgoing Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) engaged in a back-and-forth shouting match with Trump over the Iran deal, according to sources who described the incident to reporters.
“Cassidy was ‘yelling’ at Trump, the source said, according to MS NOW reporter Mychael Schnell, who went on to note that Trump also attacked a Pennsylvania Republican for missing the Senate vote on his war powers, which passed in a rebuke of his Iran war. The problem is that the Republican lawmaker whom Trump scolded couldn’t be in two places at once because he was with Trump at a campaign event in the state.
“This source also tells me that Trump went after Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) for missing yesterday’s war powers vote, which was successful, 48-50,” Schnell wrote. “But worth noting: McCormick was with Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. And even if he were at the Capitol, the resolution still would’ve been successful because McConnell was absent.”
Cassidy joined Democrats in the vote to rebuke Trump’s unprovoked war with Iran. His vote follows his recent defeat for re-election, which Trump had a hand in by endorsing his MAGA challenger and frequently attacking Cassidy for not being 100 percent on board with his policies and actions.
Republicans have also been further frustrated by Trump’s demand to kill the filibuster and pass his voter suppression bill. Adding to that frustration is the fact that Trump recently refused to sign a popular bipartisan housing bill that passed the House and Senate because he isn’t getting his way on the voting bill.
The question is, when will Senate Republicans finally say enough is enough with Trump’s bullsh*t?
