Donald Trump continues to tout and brag about his deal with Iran, but Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) is calling it the “worst foreign policy blunder in decades,” which is making former President Ronald Reagan spin in his grave.
After months of attacking Iran, killing children, committing war crimes, and letting Americans get fleeced at the pump due to soaring oil prices because of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Trump finally signed a deal ending the conflict on Wednesday.
However, despite his insistence that this is a good deal and a better solution than the JCPOA agreement reached by former President Barack Obama, it turns out that Iran will retain their nuclear material and will get even more money than ever before.
As you may recall, while Iran received $1.7 billion under the JCPOA, Trump is giving the Iranians over $300 billion, which they can use to rebuild their infrastructure and their military capabilities. The deal also shows Iran that they can close the Strait of Hormuz to hold the world hostage whenever they want, and Republicans will bend over and do whatever Iran demands to reopen it.
That’s exactly what Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) sees when he reads the terms of the deal, which he trashed on social media in a blistering statement.
“Reagan is rolling over in his grave,” Cassidy wrote. “Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future.”
“Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal,” Cassidy continued. “Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was being crushed by sanctions, and 13 service members were still alive. Now, 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions at the pump, sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.”
Indeed, it’s a defeat for the United States. Trump has literally waved the white flag of surrender despite months of claiming victory. The “winner” of a war should not be paying more in reparations than the Germans did after World War I, but that’s precisely the case. Americans are going to pay Iran’s price to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which only closed because Trump launched an unnecessary and unprovoked attack.
Trump tore up the JCPOA, an agreement that Iran had been abiding by. Now he’s signed a deal that’s so much worse that even Republicans are criticizing it as the world laughs at us.
