Most Americans already think that Donald Trump and his Secret Service detail set up a fake assassination attempt against him in Pennsylvania during the 2024 Election. Now it’s being reported that Trump himself shut down the FBI investigation that could have proven it one way or the other.
Thomas Crooks allegedly targeted Trump from a rooftop perch nearby during a campaign stop in Butler, Pennsylvania, supposedly grazing Trump’s ear and killing a spectator instead. Rather than flee to safety, Trump stayed long enough to throw his arm into the air in an act of political theater as if he knew his life was never in danger.
It’s not the only time this has happened, either, if you recall the supposed assassination attempt during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner earlier this year, in which Trump could be seen watching the chaos unfold with a smile on his face behind the curtain instead of evacuating entirely. He would go on to immediately use the incident to justify building a ballroom.
As the FBI usually does after such an incident, the agency opened an official investigation that continued until Trump took office in January the next year. That’s when Trump reportedly ordered the FBI to stop investigating, according to information provided by Tucker Carlson.
Carlson said during an interview that the information came from Dan Bongino, who became the number two official in the FBI before resigning in December 2025 as demand for the release of the Epstein files continued to heighten. Bongino had previously called for the release of the files himself before joining the FBI.
When Carlson asked Bongino about the FBI investigation in Butler, Bongino told him that Trump ordered it shut down.
“I know that Trump shut down the investigation into Butler. That is a fact. Dan Bongino told me that when he worked at the FBI. And Dan Bongino himself was terrified when I spoke to him in December,” Carlson said. “He was clearly terrified. I didn’t get it at first, but he was hysterical. And ultimately, after a long series of text exchanges, which I still have, and phone conversations, he said, look, take it up with Trump. He’s the one who shut down the investigation.”
The only logical reason why Trump would shut down the FBI investigation of his alleged attempted assassination is that he has something to hide. There was no manifesto from Crooks and no warnings that he might be a threat. He may have even been a Trump supporter. Trump’s ear has also made a miraculous recovery, even though cartilage doesn’t grow back.
Trump clearly did not want law enforcement to do a deep dive here, which only strengthens the theory that Trump staged the incident to gain sympathy and support during the 2024 Election.
