Trump Threatens To Seize Control Of DC If Preferred Candidate Loses Mayoral Race

Donald Trump is once again threatening tyranny if he doesn’t get his way in the Washington DC race for mayor between Democratic Socialist candidate Janeese Lewis George and establishment candidate Kenyan McDuffie.

Current Mayor Muriel Bowser has had a friendlier relationship with Trump than most residents can stomach, which is why Lewis George is leading in the polls. Her stance includes fighting back against Trump’s attacks on the city, ending the DC police department’s cooperation with ICE and other federal agencies, and passing universal childcare.

This is similar to how Zorhan Mamdani won the mayoral race in New York City last year, and things have drastically improved under his leadership. Washington DC could experience the same thing if they elect Lewis George.

But Trump is already threatening retaliation if voters elect Lewis George instead of McDuffie.

“Maybe we’d take back Washington, run it on the federal basis,” Trump said to a reporter at the White House after being asked about the primary race. “We won’t put up with it. We’re not going to lose our businesses.”

Of course, it would take an act of Congress to give Trump the power to “take back” control over Washington DC since the 1973 Home Rule Act gives local DC officials power over the local government. Trump can directly control the National Guard and use DC police, but he can’t take over the government just because he doesn’t like who the people elected.

It would take 60 votes in the Senate to make such a change, and Republicans simply do not have the votes. This election, like many elections across the nation this year, comes down to who has the courage to fight back against Trump and his dictatorial ambitions.

Americans are frustrated with the lack of fierce opposition to Trump by Democrats at a time when democracy is literally on the line. They want fighters in office, not politicians like Senator John Fetterman (D?-Penn.), who kiss Trump’s a** every chance they get. Lewis George is the fighting candidate in this primary race.

Lewis George is also a strong black woman, and we all know how Trump feels about strong black women. If DC voters want to fight back against Trump and make his life more miserable, electing Lewis George as their mayor is a perfect way to do it.
