‘Heil Hitler, Heil Trump’: MAGA Nazis Protest ‘Wh*re’ Anne Frank Play

MAGA Nazis gathered outside the American Legion Post in Howell, Michigan to do what they do best: hate. In this case, they chose to protest a play about “wh*re” Ann Frank — one of the least protestable figures in history — who died at the age of 15 in a concentration camp. But ever since Trump won the 2024 election, MAGA and the rest of the worst elements of our society have felt emboldened to just be themselves.

“There was a group of people at the four-way intersection in downtown that had swastika flags and American flags,” witness Alex Sutfill says. “They were sticking their arms up and yelling Heil Hitler and Heil Trump and everything like that.” At one point, protesters chanted “Anne Frank was a whore.”

Demonstrators covered their faces with masks that read “1488.” The “14” is a reference to “14 Words,” a white supremacist slogan: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” The “88” is code for “Heil Hitler.”

A member of the Howell American Legion says that they had put on the play with the hope that people could learn something from it because of the terrifying wave of antisemitism that has captivated certain segments of the American public.

“It kind, of uh, surprised me to have something that I was doing and had my name on getting protested,” the director of the play says. And it is surprising — there is no rational reason to protest anything related to Anne Frank. But here we are. 

Trump’s election has emboldened conservatives to be the worst they can be. Just after the election, Christian protesters took Trump’s message to a college campus in Texas, declaring that “homo sex is sin” and that “women are property” alongside “animals” and “slaves.” Children are finding themselves harassed by “Your body my choice” messaging. America is descending into absolute madness.
