Donald Trump and his Republican supporters have been desperately trying to hang the terrible economy on former President Joe Biden, but now Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) is admitting that Trump owns it.
It’s no secret that Trump is to blame for the current economic turmoil that has engulfed the country over the last several months. The combination of his obsession with tariffs and his war with Iran has caused skyrocketing gas prices along with rising costs of groceries, electricity, rent, and more.
It’s an unfolding disaster on his watch that has nothing to do with Biden, no matter how many times Trump and Republicans insist otherwise. Even Trump himself said that the nation was “an embarrassment” a year ago. The problem is that Trump was president a year ago.
Adding further insult to injury, Trump recently stated that he doesn’t spare a thought for financially struggling Americans.
“Not even a little bit,” Trump said just before leaving on a trip to China. “The only thing that matters when I’m talking about Iran — they can’t have a nuclear weapon. I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing — we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all.”
The problem is that Iran has never had a nuclear weapon and wasn’t close to having one at all. Trump’s nuclear Iran excuse for starting a war is all bunk. And he’s sacrificing the economy rather than admitting he’s a corrupt moron.
And now even Trump’s most loyal GOP allies are starting to blame him for the economic turmoil.
“President Trump’s been president for a year and a half now, so it’s his economy, even though he inherited a bad one from the Biden administration with respect to rising prices and inflation,” Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) told The Hill. “Whoever is president’s going to take it on the chin with respect to inflation and affordability.”
It should be noted that the “bad economy” under Biden was hampered by the tariffs, the pandemic, and supply chain issues under Trump’s first term. Despite that, Biden still delivered one of the strongest economies in 50 years. Even if you don’t believe that, Biden’s economy was still in better shape than anything Trump has produced over the last year and a half.
Gas wasn’t approaching $5 a gallon under Biden. Groceries weren’t as high either. And we weren’t embroiled in a war. Trump is wrecking the economy to enrich himself. He doesn’t care about the struggles of the American people, including those who voted for him. It’s time for those voters to admit it and punish Republicans for it.
