While Americans are paying higher prices for gas because of his war in Iran, Donald Trump is now bragging about oil companies getting richer because of it.
An immediate consequence of Trump’s Iran folly is the rising cost of oil, which has translated into higher gas prices at the pump for Americans. According to AAA, the national average cost of gasoline has risen to $3.59, nearly 70 cents higher than it was just one month ago. Meanwhile, the price per barrel of oil has been trading at or near $100.
It’s most certainly a financial drain on American families at a time when the economy continues to be weak. But Donald Trump is desperate to convince the country that higher prices are a good thing now that even his own base of supporters is beginning to turn on him.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump claimed higher oil prices are good because “we make a lot of money.”
“The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money,” Trump said. “BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stopping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen!”
Iran does not have nuclear weapons and did nothing to provoke an attack by the United States. Trump’s strike against Iran killed 165 schoolgirls and unleashed retaliation across the region that has left thousands dead or wounded, including seven dead American troops and up to 150 wounded. Add the economic pain on top of it, and Trump’s foolish decision to launch a war is harming our nation internationally and domestically.
The only ones making money off of higher oil and gas prices are the oil companies. Despite his attempt to con Americans into thinking higher prices are good for us, Trump is apparently now panicking because he intends to release 172 million barrels of oil from the strategic reserve, which will weaken our emergency supply.
No matter how Trump tries to spin it, his war in Iran has been disastrous.
