As spring and summer approach, Americans are now facing higher gas prices because of Donald Trump’s war in Iran, and he just admitted that he doesn’t give a damn about it.
After repeatedly promising lower gas prices to Americans during the 2024 Election, Donald Trump has not only gone back on that promise, but he now admits that higher gas prices don’t bother him at all.
Ever since Trump attacked Iran on Saturday, national gas prices have risen sharply by an average of 27 cents. In my own neck of the woods in flyover country, gas prices rose by nearly 50 cents. And as the conflict with Iran continues and spreads, it appears the price at the pump will only get higher, especially as spring and summer travel seasons result in higher fuel demands.
So, this must concern Trump, right? After all, he told his supporters that electing him for a second term would bring about lower gas prices. Well, about that… It turns out Trump doesn’t care how much money Americans have to spend on gas now because of his Iran folly, which caused Iran to retaliate by closing the crucial Strait of Hormuz and striking oil facilities in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
“I don’t have any concern about it,” Trump told Reuters when asked about rising gas prices. “They’ll drop very rapidly when this is over, and if they rise, they rise, but this is far more important than having gasoline prices go up a little bit.”
This is like when Ivan Drago remarks, “If he dies, he dies,” after brutally knocking out Apollo Creed in Rocky IV. This is Trump’s “Let them eat cake” moment, or at least one of several he has uttered.
Trump foolishly believes a war in Iran will be quick, but the Pentagon is preparing for this to drag on at least through September, according to a new report. It also must be repeatedly pointed out that Iran is more populous, has tougher terrain, and has a larger military than Iraq, where our troops were bogged down for eight years.
As Trump looks to put troops on the ground in Iran, it’s looking more and more like this conflict will drag on for a lot longer than six months. We could be mired in this war for years, as gas prices continue to rise and the economy suffers. And Trump doesn’t give a damn about the negative financial impact on Americans.
