Trump Economic Advisor Brags About Killing 300,000 Jobs And Hurting Americans

As Donald Trump continues to ignore the plight of the American people and the worsening economy in favor of his obsession with attacking Iran and propping up authoritarian dictators, his economic advisor went on television this week to brag about killing 300,000 jobs.

Trump recently took to his social media page to promise economic assistance to Hungary to prop up the authoritarian regime of Viktor Orban, a key ally of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Eastern Europe. Meanwhile, his economic agenda in the United States has done nothing but devastate millions of lives, and he doesn’t care.

Rather than admit their failure, Trump’s team is viewing it as a victory. During an appearance on Fox Business on Thursday, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett literally highlighted the loss of 300,000 jobs.

“I think the biggest thing that we can point to is that we’ve cut government employment by 300,000 workers,” Hassett said. “Those are jobs that are very high-paying that are gone forever.”

Hassett would go on to make some dubious claims about economic growth and inflation.

Let’s be clear. These 300,000 jobs are American jobs. It doesn’t matter if they are government jobs. They are jobs, and these jobs not only help people take care of their families and stimulate local economic growth, but they also support millions of Americans across the country who rely on the programs and agencies these government workers keep up and running.

Cutting these jobs raises the unemployment rate, sabotages government programs and agencies, and floods the job market with 300,000 people who will be competing for private sector jobs. The 300,000 former government employees will have an advantage on their resumes, too. So good luck getting that job you’ve been hoping to get, because now you have less chance of landing it.

This doesn’t help the economy. It doesn’t help the American people. It doesn’t combat inflation and improve GDP. It only harms. Thousands of employees cut from government agencies that have worked tirelessly to improve our lives, including the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Environmental Protection Agency, Health and Human Services, and the Social Security Administration, are now gone, depriving us of critical services.

The private sector is not going to react by creating more jobs either. Hiring has slowed down significantly as the cost of living continues to rise. This is not something to celebrate. This is what should ignite open revolt.
