Trump Embarrassingly Botches Declaration Of Independence In July 4th Speech

If you claim to love America, you better not claim that the Declaration of Independence says something that it actually doesn’t say, which is exactly what Donald Trump did on Saturday night during his July 4th speech.

Trump’s attempt to make July 4th all about himself predictably turned out to be a gigantic failure. His “Great American State Fair” humiliatingly failed to draw a crowd. Structures were falling apart. And even his own supporters were walking out on him.

Fast forward to the main event on Saturday. It was still a smaller crowd than had attended past July 4th events in Washington DC. The crowd got even smaller when a storm resulted in an evacuation of the venue, which drew anger from Trump supporters, some of whom did not bother returning. Trump’s speech, which he had claimed would be long, was delayed and shortened.

The fireworks did not start until July 4th had come to an end, and the 860,000 of them resulted in the worst air quality the nation’s capital has ever experienced. It was truly an event to be avoided, and most Americans clearly did.

During Trump’s speech, he attempted to quote the Declaration of Independence. For someone who constantly claims to love America, he clearly doesn’t love it enough to know what one of the most important documents in our history says.

“And as our Declaration of Independence tells us, we are all made in the image of one almighty god. And a communist will never say that,” Trump said.

The Declaration of Independence certainly does not say that either. It says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.”

So, according to Trump, the Declaration of Independence must be communist. It’s definitely not a Christian nationalist creed. If Trump considers his speech a gift to the nation on its birthday, America needs to initiate an exchange.
