Pete Hegseth’s response to ordering our troops to commit war crimes has drawn a flurry of outrage on social media.
After reports surfaced that Hegseth ordered a second missile strike to outright murder fishermen who were still alive after their boat was destroyed in the Caribbean, the former Fox News host took to social media to post a Christmas wish meme featuring Franklin the turtle firing a missile from a helicopter to kill people.
The meme did not play well as Americans called Hegseth out for being a fake Christian.
Indeed, even if Trump were to pardon Hegseth, he is still on the hook because he can be tried at The Hague for war crimes and crimes against humanity. There is no excuse for his actions. There’s no proof these boats are drug boats. The people being killed by our military strikes appear to be nothing more than simple fishermen trying to make an honest living.
The surviving men in the water posed no threat to anyone. Ordering their killing makes Hegseth a murderer and war criminal who should have to spend the rest of his days in prison or hanged in the interest of true justice.
It should also be pointed out that these orders are precisely the types of illegal orders that our troops should be refusing to follow. The fact that they did anyway means every single one up the chain of command should be prosecuted.
