Chicago Looks To Troll Trump By Naming Street Next To His Tower After Obama

The city of Chicago appears poised to troll Donald Trump after an alderman introduced a proposal to rename the street running next to Trump Tower after former President Barack Obama.

Chicago is Obama’s hometown, and his presidential center recently held its opening ceremony and is set to open to the public today. During their respective speeches to mark the occasion, both Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama repeatedly shaded Trump without saying his name.

Michelle Obama spoke of her husband’s calm temperament, seemingly in contrast with Trump’s constant temper tantrums. She also mentioned that, unlike Trump, her husband actually won the Nobel Peace Prize.

As if that isn’t enough to enrage Trump, Chicago city alderman Brendan Reilly has introduced a proposal that began as a petition to rename the street in front of Trump Tower after Obama.

“This would send a small message about the values we uphold as a city, those of inclusivity, resilience, and forward-thinking change, and fighting back in any way possible,” the petition, which has over 25,000 signatures, reads. The petition suggests renaming N. Wabash Avenue. to Barack Hussein Obama Avenue.

Including Obama’s middle name is especially a poke in Trump’s eye since he has frequently referred to Obama as “Hussein Obama” as if trying to demonize him or characterize him as a terrorist.

“The spirit of this is really to recognize Obama,” Reilly said in a statement. And his proposal would not cost the city millions of dollars to make the change either, unlike Trump’s deranged effort to rename the Department of Defense. Reilly is suggesting making it an honorary change, so just the addition of signs with Obama’s name, so changes don’t have to be made on GPS systems and maps.

The impact on Trump will be immediate and obvious. Trump loathes Obama and has been desperate to match his legacy, even though he will never come close to doing so. Even Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson supports the idea.

“I’m glad that the alderman put it forward, and we’ll have the debate, but there certainly is no debate to the exceptional leadership of President Obama,” he said.
