Former Naval War College Professor Blasts Pete Hegseth For Firing Top Officers

As Pete Hegseth continues to tear apart our nation’s chain of command in the midst of Donald Trump’s war in Iran, former Naval War College professor and conservative national security expert Tom Nichols took him to the woodshed.

Hegseth fired Army Chief of Staff General Randy George on Thursday, following up with the firing of Chief of Chaplains, Major General William Green Jr., and Army Transformation and Training Commander, General David Hodne. The decimation of military leadership has sent shockwaves across the armed forces at a time when stability and experience matter the most.

But this is lost on Hegseth, who prefers to carry out his culture war and vendetta regardless of the cost, even if the cost is American lives. On Friday, Nichols spoke out against Hegseth on MSNOW and noted that Hegseth is retaliating against command because he was passed up for additional promotion and was forced to resign because of his Nazi tattoos.

“Hegseth has been on a rolling purge of senior officers since the moment he got to the Pentagon,” Nichols said. It seems like this is, in particular, an animus against the Army, which Hegseth has some pretty bitter feelings about as a passed-over major who later wrote that the Army ‘spit him out’.”

Nichols went on to say that the American people deserve an explanation as to why Hegseth is purging experienced military leaders at a time when Trump is about to launch a ground invasion in Iran that is already likely to send thousands of troops home in caskets.

Joe Scarborough chimed in by pointing out that military purges typically result in disaster and that it’s something authoritarian dictators are known for, naming Joseph Stalin as a historical example and China’s Xi Jinping as a modern example.

Our national security and military power are crumbling as Hegseth purges experienced military leaders and indoctrinates the rank and file with his religious dogma, which has drawn multiple complaints from service members.

This does not make America safe. It weakens us, giving more powerful adversaries such as China and Russia a strategic edge if they choose to exploit it. The longer Americans allow Trump and Hegseth to destroy our military and domestic infrastructure, the easier it will be for our shores to be invaded. This administration needs to be brought to an immediate end. The military took an oath to defend our nation against all threats, both foreign and domestic. It’s time for them to act.
