After a conservative outlet claimed that Donald Trump is preparing to accuse both of Georgia’s Democratic senators of being illegitimate in a live televised address from the White House, a policy expert was quick to thoroughly shoot down Trump’s claim that there was fraud in the 2020 Election.
Trump is set to address the nation on Thursday, but it is a mystery what he plans to say. We can definitely expect lies, projection, and narcissism. But as we all know, the 2026 midterm election is right around the corner, and Trump is terrified of Democrats taking back control of Congress because they would act as a check on his attempt to be a dictator.
Trump has been obsessed with passing the SAVE Act, a voter suppression bill that would disenfranchise millions of Americans. Trump is also dismantling election systems so he can exert more control. In addition, he recently sent his goons to confiscate ballots from the 2020 Election in Georgia despite there being no evidence to prove his claim that there was rampant fraud.
Now, roughly four months until Election Day, a conservative outlet is claiming that Trump is set to claim on live television that Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Senator Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) are illegitimate because he supposedly found fraud. It’s an obvious scheme to defame two Democratic senators at a time when Democrats are close to taking back the majority, especially after the death of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and the death(?) of Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have cut the GOP majority to a razor-thin margin.
The problem is that Trump’s claim of fraud is completely absurd, as policy expert Adam Cochran noted on social media.
“First off, there was no fraud, but you seized the ballots and the paper backups to make sure no one could question it,” Cochran wrote. “Second, the Constitution has no way to nullify a swearing-in. Only peer expulsion. Third, this sudden ‘announcement’ is when Trump is down by two Senators and desperate to pass a bill.”
“Lastly, Trump had 64 court cases to try and litigate the election, including in Georgia,” he continued. “No case turned up any evidence, including after an audit of these ballots. Trump’s own lawyers and advocates then admitted to making up the conspiracy about this country, and were charged for it. Part of the court evidence included their own email records of coming up with the plot.”
Indeed, expelling a Senator is exceedingly difficult. But that doesn’t matter because Trump’s election fraud claim has proven over and over again to be a lie. If Trump was hoping to use a primetime address to interfere with the 2026 midterm election, he should scrap it.
