Donald Trump tried to mock Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday night by repeating unsubstantiated right-wing claims. Omar fired back on social media by calling out Trump’s cowardice and stupidity.
In a speech that is supposed to be funny, Trump spoke for an hour and drew mostly crickets as he tried to mock the journalists in the room, including CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins. After failing miserably, Trump turned to attacking his political opponents and airing his various grievances.
One of his targets was Rep. Ilhan Omar, whom Trump viciously attacked by repeating unproven right-wing slander that she supposedly married her brother, questioned her intelligence, claimed she is ruining the country, and demanded she pack up and leave.
“Ilhan Omar, one of my favorites, and her brother are thinking about moving together. Very much in love,” Trump disgustingly said. “She’s a low-IQ person, and she’s also a very dishonest person. She outta get the hell out of our country. She shouldn’t be here.”
Again, Trump’s attack has no basis in fact. It’s slander. Yet Trump keeps repeating it, this time as if it were supposed to get a roomful of uncontrolled laughter in response. It didn’t. But Omar didn’t let Trump’s attack stand without a response, which she delivered on her social media page.
“The idiot who runs our country says this but doesn’t have the courage or evidence to come after me,” she wrote. “This should tell you how low IQ he is. Trump is who needs to get the hell out of our country because he is destroying it and making us the laughing stock of the world.”
It should be noted that Trump has frequently hit on his own daughter, with many of these cringey remarks being on video. He’s also frequently demonstrated that he’s the dumbest president in American history, and the most corrupt. He has turned the United States into an international laughingstock.
Rather than deliver this absolute embarrassment of a speech, Trump would have been better off staging another fake assassination attempt.
