A recently elected Republican lawmaker says former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) should face the death penalty for alleged sexual misconduct, even as Donald Trump is repeatedly named as a rapist and pedophile in the Epstein files.
Swalwell has ended his campaign for governor in California after credible sexual misconduct allegations surfaced from multiple women. He also resigned from Congress, which Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Fla.) did as well, because of similar misconduct allegations. But while Swalwell quickly resigned, Gonzales only did so because it wouldn’t hurt his party’s House majority anymore. He had been holding on for months rather than let Republicans become the minority.
Now the Trumper who replaced Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress is demanding the death penalty for Swalwell, while conveniently ignoring sexual misconduct allegations against members of his own party, including Donald Trump.
“I want to see people in jail,” Rep. Clay Fuller (R-Ga.) said during an appearance on a right-wing program, in which the MAGA host specifically targeted Swalwell. “And the thing is, we need targeted, specific legislation that provides stiffer penalties for people who are in a position of trust.”
“And then for our most serious crimes, if you are in a position of trust and you commit rape, then you should face the death penalty, in my opinion,” Fuller continued. “If you talk to people about how should we treat child molesters, how should we treat rapists, they would expect that the death penalty should be on the table for those crimes. And so that’s what I’m advocating for.”
It’s all well and good to propose the death penalty for rapists and child molesters, but pretending that members of your own party don’t commit these crimes as well is egregious. Donald Trump’s name appears in the Epstein files tens of thousands of times, more than any other name. He is credibly accused of raping women and children while being part of the largest child trafficking ring in the world.
If you’re going to call for the death penalty against Swalwell, you better damn well call for Trump to face the same consequences for his even more reprehensible behavior.
