Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth are now waging a witch hunt against Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) for calling on our nation’s troops to disobey unlawful orders, drawing a sharp rebuke from Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.).
In the wake of a video in which six Democratic lawmakers, including Kelly, reminded active duty members of the United States military that their oath to the Constitution requires them to disobey illegal orders, Trump demanded immediate persecution. Now Hegseth, his loyal dog, is obliging by threatening to recall Kelly to active duty so a court-martial proceeding can begin.
Of course, Kelly never urged the military to disobey legal orders, only illegal ones. But Hegseth is starting a witch hunt anyway. Kelly responded by noting his extensive military service to this country as a pilot and an astronaut, making it clear that he won’t be intimidated. Gallego, who served in the Iraq War as a U.S. Marine, used even stronger words to rebuke Hegseth.
“This is fucking insane. We should all point out how fucking insane this is,” Gallego said in a video posted on Monday. “Mark Kelly is a patriot. He’s just doing his duty to remind people of their rights as service members. Secretary Hegseth, all these guys ― fuck you guys, you’re not going to be able to scare us.”
Here’s the video via Gallego’s X account:
Any attempt to court-martial Senator Kelly would be a flagrant effort to silence dissent. Our troops swore an oath to obey only lawful orders. Carrying out illegal orders can result in prosecution, and the “just following orders” excuse is not a viable defense. Donald Trump dodged military service, and Hegseth is a drunk. Veterans like Kelly and Gallego are much better role models for the troops.
