There is no place in Washington DC that is apparently safe from having Donald Trump slap his name on it in his desperate obsession with stroking his fragile ego, including Ford’s Theatre, the site where John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.
Ford’s Theatre still exists in Washington DC as a historic site that is visited by thousands of Americans every year. It is not only notable for staging plays and musicals, which it continues to do in the present day, but it’s also the site of one of the most tragic episodes in American history.
On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln in the back of the head while Lincoln was watching a play called Our American Cousin. Lincoln would pass away from his wound hours later, the next day. He had guided our nation through the Civil War from beginning to end and oversaw the passage of the 13th Amendment, cementing a lasting legacy that carries forward to this day. Lincoln remains one of the most highly ranked presidents.
Unlike Lincoln, Trump is deeply unpopular and has very few, if any, achievements. Historians consistently rank Trump at or very near the bottom among the worst presidents. Ford’s Theatre remains a pilgrimage for Americans who are eager to retrace Lincoln’s life. It’s not named after a president, but after John T. Ford, who bought the building and converted it into a theater.
By law, the site is known as Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site. But none of this information is apparently stopping Trump from scheming to slap his name on it.
According to a report from MSNOW, “administration officials are circulating a list of government sites that could have his name affixed to them in some way,” and Ford’s Theatre is on the list, although the report notes that it’s “unclear how seriously the theater is being considered or how the administration would attach Trump’s name to it.”
Nevertheless, it’s yet another example of just how low Trump is willing to sink to glorify himself as part of his demented fantasy that he is somehow great and deserves to be honored. The fact is that he deserves no such recognition. He started an unprovoked war with Iran that has achieved nothing. Gas prices are through the roof. Inflation is higher than before he took office. The economy is floundering, and the international community is laughing at us.
Trump is more focused on slapping his name on things and demolishing our history instead of the issues that matter most. He’s already trying to slap his name on the Kennedy Center; now he wants it on Ford’s Theatre.
