Donald Trump’s war in Iran is costing American lives and billions of American tax dollars, and now, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Co.), one of his Republican allies in the House, has strongly rejected Trump’s $200 billion funding request.
Pete Hegseth sent the funding request to Trump this week so he could forward it to Congress. However, it appears that while Republicans generally support his war in Iran, they are not so keen on passing a funding bill that sticks taxpayers with more debt as gas prices explode and the economy continues to sink.
Reporters caught up to Boebert on Thursday to ask if she would vote to pass Trump’s war spending bill. Her response made it clear that she will not, and she even explained why.
“I will not vote for a war supplemental,” Boebert said. “No. I am a no. I’ve already told leadership. I am a no on any war supplementals. I am so tired of spending money elsewhere. I am tired of the industrial-war complex getting all of our hard-earned tax dollars. I have folks in Colorado who can’t afford to live. We need America First policies right now, and that, I’m not doing that.”
Boebert dodged the question of whether Trump should abandon his Iran folly by stating that it’s up to him, but her refusal to vote in favor of $200 billion for it marks yet another example of Republicans turning against Trump. Trump campaigned on promises not to start any wars and to improve the economy, neither of which he has kept.
As Trump continues to muse about sending ground troops into combat in Iran, Republicans need to stand up for our soldiers and American taxpayers by rejecting this funding request in its entirety. This madness needs to stop. If Boebert can grow a spine, so can the rest of the House GOP.
