Billionaire dipsh*t and so-called “free speech defender” Elon Musk is now targeting educators for daring to teach students about the darkest chapters in American history, even going so far as to demand they be charged with treason and imprisoned.
Musk, who was recently schooled by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after he claimed Democrats are winning elections in Minnesota because of Somali immigrants, threw a tantrum on his social media account on Wednesday in response to a survey in which a majority of students said they have been taught historically accurate facts about America’s past.
Despite claiming to be for free speech, Musk once again went full hypocrite by calling for charging teachers with treason and jailing them if they don’t brainwash classrooms into thinking the history of the United States is all sunshine and rainbows and that our country has never made mistakes or done anything remotely wrong.
The problem is that any well-educated person should be able to admit that the United States is far from perfect. Slaves literally built our country on land taken from Native Americans over centuries. To pretend otherwise is whitewashing. It would be like Elon Musk pretending that the British didn’t colonize South Africa and that the white population didn’t institute a system of apartheid to keep themselves in power there.
We cannot afford to pretend that our country has not committed great wrongs. That is how history repeats itself. It’s how a nation falls to ruin. Ignoring our history is not patriotism. It’s how racists like Musk indoctrinate a nation of racists who lack the intellectual and emotional capacity to uphold basic principles such as democracy and equality. How can we uphold human rights if we don’t have any knowledge of human rights violations? How can we gain empathy?
Schools must teach our history, both the good and the bad. Anything less is unacceptable and presents a skewed version of our country that does not exist, risking the creation of a hypernationalist nation comparable to Nazi Germany or pre-1946 Japan.
Needless to say, social media users mocked Musk and called out his free speech hypocrisy.
The sooner we get Nazis like Musk out of our schools, the better.
