Donald Trump has gone completely mad with power as he once again threatened to commit war crimes against Iran that would have a devastating impact on the region and our own country.
As his war in Iran continues to spiral out of control, with gas prices still rising along with American casualties, Trump threw another social media temper tantrum on Monday by threatening to commit war crimes against Iran if they don’t negotiate a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“If for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched,’” Trump wrote. “This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”
The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for the transportation of around 20 percent of the world’s oil supply, and it should be pointed out that Trump’s attack against Iran is the reason it was partially closed in the first place. So, Trump is literally making threats over a problem that he caused.
Furthermore, targeting the electric grid and water supply of Iran would be devastating for the millions of civilians who rely on them. It’s a war crime that Trump, members of his administration, and members of our military can and should be prosecuted for perpetrating.
As for bombing oil infrastructure, that would make the current oil and gas cost crisis even worse. Again, Trump caused this whole mess by striking Iran in the first place, and he did so for no reason. It was a completely unprovoked attack, which he has already admitted that he did for Israel rather than for American interests.
Our military has already committed a war crime for Trump by murdering 165 Iranian schoolgirls in a missile strike. Now he’s threatening additional atrocities that would result in widespread regional suffering as well as a negative impact on our economy and international standing, both of which are already teetering on the edge of disaster.
