Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wisc.) openly complained this week that Republicans aren’t helping rich people enough as the overwhelmingly majority of Americans are struggling financially while the wealthy continue to receive massive tax cuts.
Gas and grocery prices are higher than they were two years ago. So is inflation. This is despite Donald Trump and his Republican suck-ups insisting that only they can bring prices down. The problem is that Trump and the GOP have done nothing but help the rich. They did it in 2017 by passing the largest tax cut in American history while also gradually increasing taxes on the rest of us. And they did it again last year while also handing wealthy individuals and corporations policies that only make them richer while everyone else suffers.
The idea that Trump and Republicans in Congress are somehow helping anyone but the rich people who fill their pockets with bribe money is laughable. The idea that Congress should do even more for the rich is infuriating. But that’s what Grothman openly claimed during a policy discussion on Thursday that should be played by Democrats on repeat in ads across the country.
“Don’t let anybody tell you that people running, uh, Congress right now are looking out for the rich,” Grothman said. “Actually, I think we should do a little more for them, but, you know, right now, uh, we are doing all we can to help the middle class, right?”
No, not right. If Republicans were doing everything they can to help the poor and middle class, we wouldn’t have high gas prices. We wouldn’t have high grocery bills. Inflation wouldn’t be at a record high. The national debt wouldn’t be $40 trillion. We wouldn’t be in an unprovoked war with Iran. Even Trump himself has admitted that he doesn’t care about the financial hardships impacting American families, and Grothman is one of Trump’s top supporters in the House.
Any Republican who claims their party is working for the American people is lying. They are working for the rich and only for the rich.
