After Federal Communications Commission Chairman and Donald Trump sycophant, Brendan Carr, threatened news stations over their accurate coverage of the war in Iran, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) and other Democrats took him to the woodshed.
Carr took to social media on Sunday to accuse the media of “running hoaxes and distortions,” and went on to demand that they “change course” or face the loss of their broadcasting licenses. It’s a clear threat to violate the First Amendment rights of the press that are protected by the Constitution.
In response to Carr’s Nazi bullsh*t, Lieu fired back.
“If you implement your flagrantly anti-First Amendment actions, you will be sued and you will lose,” he wrote on his social media page. “And legal discovery will be awesome. Because the American people can then find out what the Administration keeps hiding. Take your fascist shit and shove it.”
Indeed, the press should be free to provide information to the American people, especially on war activities that impact all of us. Thirteen Americans are dead because of this war. 165 Iranian children are dead because our military, under Trump’s order, committed a war crime. Gas prices are soaring here at home, and Trump doesn’t care.
But Trump and his Nazi minions are demanding that the media only repeat government propaganda to the public instead of what’s really happening because they know it’s going badly for them.
Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) also had words for Carr.
If Trump and Carr really have a problem with broadcasters not “operating in the public interest,” then Fox News should be the first to lose its license. After all, Fox News has repeatedly misled the public by spreading lies and disinformation, even outright defaming voting machine companies. Fox News has even admitted in court that they aren’t a real news outlet.
The Constitution protects legitimate news organizations against government censorship. This threat by Carr is an attack on the Constitution, which our military swore an oath to defend against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It’s time for Trump, Carr, and the rest of these Nazis to be arrested.
