Donald Trump’s Rededicate 250 event is his latest attempt to appease right-wing Christians, and it turned out to be a humiliating failure that he didn’t even bother to show up to because he played golf instead.
Despite the Founding Fathers making it quite clear that the United States is a secular nation founded in no way on any specific religion, the Rededicate 250 event seemed to be nothing more than an extremist effort to claim that America is a Christian nation.
The event took place on the National Mall in Washington DC, with Trump and several of his cronies, including Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, and Mike Johnson, all doing their damnedest to hype it up as a huge deal.
While the National Mall can accommodate over one million people, it was clear for the entirety of the event that the crowd size didn’t even crack Trump’s sparsely attended first inauguration in 2017. The crowd size at Trump’s first inauguration is still a sore subject, and the pathetic attendance at this event will likely give him a bout of crowd size PTSD.
According to the Daily Beast, “images captured by Reuters from the event show dozens of empty seats in front of the screens while Trump’s pre-recorded three-minute message was screened, six hours into proceedings.”
Ouch. That’s humiliating. Daily Beast further reports:
“Ahead of Sunday, the Rededicate 250 website said they expected “several thousand attendees” throughout the day… While no official crowd estimate was immediately available, The Washington Post said Rededicate 250 drew “a crowd of thousands,” a figure echoed by the Associated Press.”
That’s likely not the kind of numbers Trump and his supporters were hoping for, but they’ll likely try to inflate the numbers and pretend the event was a huge hit when the reality is that it was a complete dud.
Right-wing “Christians” are high on themselves while the rest of the country soundly rejects them and their dogma. They are also the worst kind of hypocrites who believe freedom of religion is only for them and that they have the right to force their beliefs down America’s throat.
This event was no triumph. It was an embarrassing demonstration of just how much Trump and his “Christian” extremist supporters have turned Americans from religion. The Founding Fathers would be ashamed of this event. They would not endorse it. And neither did most Americans, given the poor turnout.
